Carl Maria von Weber dies in London on 25 June. In Mendelssohn studied under the composer and piano virtuoso Ignaz Moscheles , who confessed in his diaries  that he had little to teach him. Alkan: The man, the music. The failure of this production left him disinclined to venture into the genre again. The family papers inherited by Marie's and Lili's children form the basis of the extensive collection of Mendelssohn manuscripts, including the so-called "Green Books" of his correspondence, now in the Bodleian Library at Oxford University.
